I am a doctor (PhD) of medical genetics in the United States. I suffered from achalasia disease and because the American healthcare system is extremely slow and expensive, I decided to come to Kazakhstan to perform the surgery I needed, which is called PreOral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM). As I hired an interpreter to help me find the right place, National scientific center of surgery named by Syzganov was the only hospital that would be suitable because Dr. Abdirashev, YB was the only surgeon in Kazakhstan with the skills to perform this surgery. I went and was immediately surprised by the speed. In one day, I saw the general doctor and was sent to get both an endoscopy and a barium swallow within an hour of each other. This would have taken multiple visits over months in the US! During the endoscopy, I met Dr. Abdirashev who confirmed my diagnosis as achalasia on the spot. I then went to the head of the Endoscopy department who instructed me to get a COVID PCR test, then I would be hospitalized to do the surgery within 2 days. It went by like a blur because in America, you usually have to make this appointment 9 months in advance! Hospitalization and surgery were straight-to-the-point and no-frills. The nursing staff was wonderful making me feel as comfortable as possible despite my not speaking Russian or Kazakh. When I woke up, Dr. Abdirashev explained to me that because I had some extra muscular growth and toughness in my esophagus, my surgery was long and difficult, but nonetheless, it was very successful! Upon discharge, I had to go back to the US within a few days for my job and Dr. Abdirashev kept in close communication with me so I could update him about my post-operative condition and he could advise me on what to do for optimal healing. During this time, I learned a lot from him and really appreciated his care even after the patient had left not only the hospital but the country. When I decided to get surgery in Kazakhstan, I expected speed, cost, and efficiency far beyond what can be found in the US or even the Western world; I got all of them. I was delighted to find not only those but also world-class beating excellence in professionalism and care. There is nothing I could have possibly expected from an American hospital that I did not receive here. Thank you, National scientific center of surgery named by Syzganov, to its staff, and to Dr. Abdirashev YB; because of you, I am healthy again!
